La Junta students build virtual Bent's Old Fort
This was a post from Jessi Mitchell who elaborates on how High school and College students from La Junta are creating a project to virtually recreate Bent's Old Fort. This is more formally known as the Immersive Education Club. This club consists of 20 students from La Junta High School and Otero Junior College. They are scheduled to meet once a week to further increase their skills in creating 3D versions of places that exist. Students say that this is a fun and exiting experience.
The Immersive Education Club is currently in the early stages. Students are getting themselves familiarized with online building through the well known game Minecraft. Once students complete the fort in Minecraft, they advance to a program called Autocad, followed by Autocad 3D. Students seem to love this club and find it very refreshing and engaging. This is a great way for students to learn who don't enjoy learning in classroom.
Historic Colo. trading post to be recreated in Minecraft
MineCraft is one of the most popular digital games in the world. MineCraft is referred as the "Sandbox game", which allows players to roam through artificial landscapes. A non profit group called Immersive education reconstructs virtually with this game. Students in Colorado are focusing on reconstructing the Bent Old Fort which is a replica of an 1830s trading post on the old Santa Fe Trail.
